A probabilistic method to evaluate bow foils for realistic seas and shipping routes

چکیده

To improve ship efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, the use of renewable based energy saving devices is an emerging field. By harnessing ambient wave energy, bow mounted foils can serve as device (ESD), reducing added resistance in waves generating additional thrust. This paper presents a methodology to predict over various regions, seasons routes. The results show that length significantly influences effectiveness with respect differing regions worldwide. percentage foil retraction also shown be significant factor operating large variation depending on heading encountered sea state. presented method, which could implemented for assessment future designs, provides holistic approach evaluate route specific savings.
